Yellow vs Green: Reading Wordle Tiles Like a Pro

WordleMaven Team3 min read

Green means right letter, right spot. Yellow means right letter, wrong spot. Simple, right? Until repeated letters appear.

Repeated letters

If you guess ALLEY against the answer ALOFT, you'll see green-A, gray-L, gray-L, gray-E, gray-Y — even though L appears once in ALOFT. That's because once a letter's count is satisfied, extra copies get marked gray.

Strategy implication

Avoid double letters in your first two guesses unless you have a strong reason. They cost you information.
